Precise Dispensing of Anaerobic Adhesives
Anaerobic adhesives are used for securing, sealing and bonding metallic components such as screws, threads, shafts, bearings and flange surfaces. They cure when confined between metal surfaces in the absence of oxygen. Precise and controlled material application is essential for reliable performance, as even small quantities may be sufficient.
Using suitable dispensing technology allows the adhesive to be applied with high repeatability, efficient material usage and reliable process control. The correct dispensing volume, a suitable dispensing tip, clean material cut-off and uniform wetting of the surface all play an important role. Depending on the application and production requirements, dispensing can be performed manually or automatically, ensuring consistent quality and efficient material use.

Automated application of anaerobic adhesive to brass components in a tray. The adhesive is dispensed in a circular pattern on the inside at two different height positions, with different circle diameters. A diaphragm valve with plastic media-contacting parts is used so that the anaerobic adhesive does not cure inside the valve. The material is supplied via a 30 cc cartridge with separate material pre-pressure, while the valve is controlled via a second dispensing controller. The valve, cartridge and cross-slide are mounted on the fourth axis of the WRA-300 dispensing robot. The cross-slide makes it easy to manually adjust the dispensing tip in the X, Y and Z directions after a change and align the dispensing point precisely.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about anaerobic adhesive dispensing
Anaerobic adhesives are adhesives that cure in the absence of air and in contact with metallic surfaces. They are commonly used for securing, sealing and joining metal components.
Typical applications include thread locking, thread sealing, shaft-hub connections, bearing retention, flange sealing and sealing pipe threads.
For simple applications, dispensing controllers with cartridges and plastic dispensing tips are suitable. For higher production volumes or repeatable processes, dispensing valves such as our diaphragm valve can be used in combination with a dispensing robot.
Too little material can impair the locking or sealing effect. Too much material can lead to contamination, material waste and additional cleaning effort. Precise dispensing ensures consistent results.
Yes, anaerobic adhesives can be dispensed automatically depending on the material, component and process. Dispensing valves, dispensing robots and suitable material supply systems can be used for this purpose.
The dispensing tip must match the viscosity, required dispensing volume and geometry of the component. For anaerobic adhesives, metal-free dispensing tips should also be used to prevent the adhesive from curing inside the tip.
